Atkins

The Atkins Nutritional Approach, popular called the Atkins Diet, aims to control how insulin is promoted inside the body by controlling what goes in our mouth. It is based on the idea that a large amount of carbohydrates will cause insulin in the body to rise quickly, and then fall just as fast. When insulin rises like this it causes the body to store fat. This is one of the popular low carbohydrate diet as it requires you to eat a low amount of carbs and high amounts of protein.

The Zone Diet

This diet requires participants to eat a ratio of 40 per cent carbohydrates, 30 per cent fats and 30 per cent protein. Like the Atkins diet, the Zone aims to control the levels of insulin. The diet gets its name from the increased oxygen that is supposedly pumped to the muscles – like “The Zone” athletes experience – which improves mood and well being.

Weight Watchers

The main focus of Weight Watchers is the support network. Started in the 1960s by a housewife, the aim is to lose weight through sensible diet and exercise. Weight Watchers is now a huge international brand making millions of dollars each year. It is highly successful and highly popular approach to losing weight.
