I’m Fat And I Hate Exercise! Do these words sound familiar?
Ok, do you think you may be overweight because you hate exercise? Along with overeating and eating unhealthy foods, I will bet the lack of exercise is a major contributing factor to your current weight problem.
So, what do you do now, you hate exercise and you love chocolate and ice cream. The first step is to understand and accept why you are fat to begin with. Many of us do not want to admit that we would rather eat a twinkie than a salad. That is a big problem. I hate to tell you this, but there are no magic pills to make us thin in spite of the claims we see on tv. That Bowflex commercial with the sexy young girl, do you think you can look like her if your treadclimber sits in your bedroom in the box it came in.
Of course not. We all know better than that. That girl in the commercial looks great because she works hard to look that way. She probably doesn’t even know what ice cream is. But I bet she spends more time working out than watching tv.
That brings us back to, what do you do now? You decide you want to be healthy once and for all. Not just thin, but healthy. Yes, this will entail extreme effort and determination on your part. Remember, no magic here.
Next you need to make a plan. Decide on changes you can make to your eating habits. I am sure you can find some flaws in your diet, can you eliminate fried foods and processed foods. Add more fresh fruits and vegetables to your menu. You may even want to get information on a good, sensible weight loss diet. No fad diets, something sensible like Weight Watchers or South Beach Diet. A program that will teach you portion control along with how to make healthy food choices.
The second part of the plan. Decide how to include exercise in your schedule every day. Keep it simple in the beginning. You want to succeed, we can up the intensity after you get going and see some results. Walking is my favorite pick. You don’t need any special equipment. It’s how I started. If you have access to a treadmill or treadclimber, great.
I recently purchased a Bowflex Treadclimber after I tried one at a hotel on vacation. Yes, I actually went to the hotel gym on my vacation. I workout 3-4 time a week on my TC5000 and it changed the way I look at exercise. I enjoy my workouts and even better, I love my weigh ins. Over 50 pounds gone in 6 months.
The third part of the plan. Implement parts one and two of your plan. Unless you actually follow through with your plan, you will not see any weight loss results and you will remain fat and unhealthy. Make realistic goals for yourself, don’t set yourself up to fail. Start out with a 5 pound weight loss goal, not 100 pounds. You have to lose 5 before you can get to 100. Try walking for 10 minutes your first time out. Increase your time when it becomes easy.
But most important, DO IT! Don’t make excuses, don’t hate exercise. Your health is worth the effort.
