I heard about the cabbage soup diet a number of years ago and frankly I was intrigued. I mean, here they are telling me I can lose 10 lbs in a week…just by eating soup.
Full disclosure, I’m a soup guy. I can generally replicate any soup in my kitchen, just by tasting it once. I haven’t met a soup I didn’t at least like. Of course, most of the soups I really love are cream based and just chock full of fat and calories. But everything’s a tradeoff right? It’s still ok to have some of those things as long as you balance them with other good things and exercise. But I digress…
Back to the soup. Now, the idea is that the cabbage soup is a low calorie, nutrient rich way of making you feel full. Um, ok. It’s also a cruciferous vegetable. Now I don’t want to get too graphic here with the effects of eating too much cabbage, so you might want to watch this quick video:
Suffice it to say – gassy and bloated is no way to live for a week.
Regardless, I did make and try the soup. It’s really not bad. But you have to commit to eating it for a week. For me this flies in the face of our motto here at WLC. Be mindful. Be healthy. Love your life.
It’s got 1 and 2 covered. But it sure as hell has nothing to do with “loving your life”. So, I ultimately ended up a passing on it. However, if you are adventurous and want to give it a try, godspeed and good luck. In fact, here’s a link that gives you a quick rundown.
If you do try it, drop us a line and let us know how it goes. I may actually change my mind and power through (it in spite of our motto), if we get enough positive feedback!
Be mindful. Be healthy. Love your life.
